Apparently a growing number of men, who refer to themselves as "bronies," are proudly confessing their obsession with "My Little Pony Friendship Is Magic."
No, it's not an Adult Swim parody of a show for little girls.
It is a show for little girls.
“First we can’t believe this show is so good, then we can’t believe we’ve become fans for life, then we can’t believe we’re walking down the pink aisle at Toys R Us or asking for the girl’s toy in our Happy Meal,” [32-year-old Luke] Allen said in an e-mail toWired.com. “Then we can’t believe our friends haven’t seen it yet, then we can’t believe they’re becoming bronies too.”
4Chan, a website known for flooding the nternet with nasty jokes, erupted in a “civil war” when a moderator tried to an pony discussions; eventually the site gave up and had to allow its member o talk about Princess Celestia and the pretty pony tea parties. “4Chan once took on the FBI and won”, a Brony told the New York Observer, “so you might say that My Little Pony is more powerful than FBI”.
To be fair, "My Little Ponies Friendship is Magic" is made by Lauren Fausi, who was behind "Power Puff Girls," which was always more popular with male fans.
Yet unlike other cartoons with grown-up fans, My Little Pony makes almost no concession to adults, since its goal is to attract little girls to buy the pony-lineup toys.
