It's been a sad couple of days for me in miniature land. Last week, we announced that Demonweb would be the last set to support the D&D Miniatures battle game. This also means is this weekend is the final prerelease for the D&D Miniatures game (look here for locations!).

In the future, we'll keep producing great miniatures, but with the single purpose of supporting the roleplaying game.

I'm still excited about the selection of monsters found in Demonweb, and this week I feature two of my favorite creatures in the set. They were first included in the 3rd Edition Miniatures Handbook but have made the transition to 4th Edition in the first Monster Manual. They've also been spotted in several of the early 4th Edition adventures. Here they are -- the Kruthiks!

Kruthik Adult

It's been a while since we've seen a kruthik miniature. The first was the Kruthik Hatchling, a small, common miniature from the Deathknell set. Unlike that kruthik, the common Kruthik Adult is a medium figure. Originally, there wasn't a strong mechanical anchor for these creatures, but this has definitely been changed in 4th Edition: kruthiks have an aura that causes enemies to take damage when they end their turn adjacent.

Kruthik Hive Lord

This large, uncommon monster is the basis for any final kruthik encounter. Because it's uncommon, it should be pretty easy to amass a couple of adults and a hive lord or two to threaten your PCs.

For the miniature battle game, the hive lord is a champion. Any amount of auto damage is a considerable threat, and this creature has a champion power that has the potential to do just that. Four different creatures in the set are beasts, so expect some interesting combinations to spring up this weekend at the Demonweb prerelease!
