Windows Sidebar就是集成在Vista里的侧边条，能够用来占据大屏幕显示器的屏幕一侧，方便工作或者查阅信息；Sidebar里的东西拖到桌面上就是Gadgets

Windows Sidebar and Gadgets
The new Windows Vista Sidebar provides a way for you to organize the information and links you want to quickly access, without compromising your workspace. Sidebar is located on the desktop and contains gadgets, which are customizable mini-programs. They display continuously updated information, provide shortcuts and allow you to perform common tasks without opening a window. For example you can display regularly updated weather forecasts, news headlines, or traffic information. In addition you can view links to your favorite websites, a picture slide show, and an Internet search.

对于大部分宽屏幕显示器来说，整个桌面用来做浏览网页之类工作的话就显得过于宽大了，因此侧边栏相当有必要，对于没有Windows Sidebar的XP来说更是如此。有人把Vista的Sidebar移植到XP下，但是兼容性有问题，而且安装很麻烦

三个都用过，简单说一下
最早用的是Google Desktop，界面简单，功能尚可，比较好的就是桌面搜索，后来发现有一个令IDE传输断流的致命BUG：在安装Google Desktop的情况下，磁盘性能会间歇性的急剧下降数秒，比如复制大型文件时每1～2分钟磁盘传输速度就会急剧下降到10%以下甚至完全停止大约10秒钟，因为这个BUG我还重装了系统（发现和软件有关之前我还以为是南桥或者硬盘故障，更怕）。这个BUG甚至在关闭Google Desktop的情况下还会出现，并且已经在另一台电脑上复现出来。所以我义无返顾地彻底删除了Google Desktop。

Yahoo! Widget是单纯的Gardgets工具，不能当sidebar用，但是界面很华丽，接近了Vista的水平，功能也很丰富

Desktop Sidebar界面比Google Desktop好看，还能换皮肤，缺点是知名度低所以第三方插件比较少，不过官方插件功能也很齐全。本土化程度不足，新闻都是英文的，不过其他插件也很合我的胃口了。我现在在家用Desktop Sidebar，在公司用Yahoo! Widget

试用了一下，Yahoo! Widget确实高

只用鱼鱼，东西还行，资源占用也不高。
虽然插件网页广告很多，但桌面要用的东西也就那么几样，一年下来去的次数一只手都数得完。

yahoo widget!继承了Konfabulator吃内存的优点。
刚装上的时候觉得挺好看，但后来发现桌面记事本和邮件检查只有注册了yahoo用户才能用，就冲这一点就直接放弃了。
