The Annecy presentation was moderated by industry veteran Jerome Mazandarani and featured Kasagi Labo Chief Production Officer Tony Izumi alongside special creative advisor Masao Maruyama, the influential producer and co-founder of both Madhouse and MAPPA. Maruyama’s long list of credits includes Perfect Blue, Ninja Scroll, and Tokyo Godfathers, and several of his productions have previously been recognized at Annecy.

Alongside Living in a World Without Magic, Kasagi Labo announced a new project connected to the Ninja Scroll franchise. Released in 1993, Yoshiaki Kawajiri’s film became one of the defining works of anime’s early international boom, introducing countless Western viewers to Japanese animation during the VHS era and helping establish the medium’s reputation overseas. The announcement carries additional weight given the involvement of special creative advisor Masao Maruyama, who produced the original film while at Madhouse.
