So while this is explained in the movie with certain reasons, it's clear that there are ulterior motives that aren't being made explicit.
The supposed reasoning is that the marriage is to act as an "olive branch" (aka a sign/committance to the peace) between the two nations. What seems to be hinted/what I conjecture is that Nifl wanted to propose the marriage because they wanted both Regis and Noctis to be in one place so both could be assassinated- a job they failed to do 12 years ago. Glauca tells Luna it's a "pity" she couldn't see her "beloved" Noctis but that she now has "another purpose," suggesting her marriage was originally serving some sort of purpose for Nifl- hence why I think it was to group them up and assassinate them. The whole part of the wedding being in Altissia was not something made clear to Nifl- it was something Regis came up with to keep both of them out of Insomnia and the battle that was going to take place. Noct he told directly, and Luna he **ned to tell by sending Crowe. Obviously that failed so news of Luna coming to Insomnia surprised and concerned him when he was informed.

9. ~~~~~What's the deal with the hairpin they give to Luna?
Ok so seriously the damn hairpin is like the most confusing thing to me.
The part that's clear: The hairpin was supposed to send a signal that would provide coordinates. These would show up on the watch that Crowe had. The idea then, was that Crowe/Lucis was hoping to have Luna wear it when they met up so in case something went wrong, they would be able to find Luna and make sure she's safe.
The part that's unclear: Somehow, for some reason, at some point, Niflheim apparently bugged it too and put their own tracer that would attract the monsters/they could order the monsters to seek out the signal. They could have done this before Crowe ever got it, but then why kill her? Maybe as a backup in case they failed?
They could have also bugged it once Crowe's body was brought back and they gave Nyx the box. This would have likely been done by the captain. This sorta makes some more sense since it lends some reasoning to why he gave the box to Nyx, put Nyx on guard duty for the princess, and watched him at the dinner to see that he gave Luna the hairpin. That said, it's also kind of a longshot that he **ned all that out, and also goes against his whole moment of specifically ordering Nyx NOT to talk to the princess- unless he's calculating enough to be trying to use reverse psychology on top of everything else lol. Idk haven't seen anything that seems to really capture it all so maybe others have thoughts? It could also just be a real big plot hole/poorly explained thing in the movie that just lends itself to giving a moment for Nyx to shpeal about his sister.
