I called Accel World a Shana Clone pre-season, but that isn’t strictly true. For my per­sonal defin­i­tion of the Shana Clone, the main char­ac­ter needs to be a personality-less everylead who has no defin­ing fea­tures bey­ond the fact that they’re kind of nice. Being a humong­ous loser is an improve­ment on that, albeit only if played cor­rectly. A wimpy char­ac­ter has to develop so nice things can hap­pen to them. The altern­at­ive is some­thing like Future Diary or Evan­gelion, where the main char­ac­ter has some­thing great fall into their lap, but their inab­il­ity to mature means it act­ively wor­sens their lives. There has to be a pull/push to this. Some­thing fall­ing into a char­ac­ters lap and instantly improv­ing their life at no cost is not good storytelling. It’s just wish-fulfillment of the lazi­est order.

Now with that in mind, let’s take a look at what Accel World does. Main character’s abil­ity at this obscure com­puter game res­ults in the pret­ti­est girl in the school drag­ging him over, caress­ing the inside of his leg and giv­ing him magical powers. He now has to com­pete in games where the if he wins, he gains extra points in tests and a whole bunch of other stuff. But ooh, does it come at a cost? Why yes, if he loses, he’s no longer part of the game! So, does he get dis­con­nec­ted from the entire net­work? Err, no. Does he get dam­aged in the real world, .Hack style? Err, no. Abso­lutely noth­ing hap­pens to him what­so­ever. The extent of what hap­pens to him is he no longer has bul­lies after him, he keeps his old friends, and he had a short romantic skir­mish with the pret­ti­est girl in school. Oh dear. I feel so sorry for your pre­dic­a­ment. Let me play you the worlds smal­lest violin.

Another thing Accel World appears to struggle with is that it’s a story, not a video game. Yes, I’m aware they are play­ing a video game inside the world. Thanks, the health bars and attack sheets gave that away. You don’t need to give me a fuck­ing tutorial for every single part of the fuck­ing match. I’m not play­ing the game, I don’t need to see that sort of stuff. Yet still, for large por­tions of the epis­ode, our token pretty lady cycled through the rules and reg­u­la­tions on how to attack. Not import­ant stuff that would affect the story. Basic video game rules that we could have figured out for ourselves based on the simplest of visual cues that it gave us any­way. You don’t need to adapt a light novel verse by verse. Use the anim­ated medium to show that stuff a book needs to spell out for you to understand.

Char­ac­ter designs are the same gen­eric nose­less shiny people you see all over the place, with the excep­tion of chubby-san. The anim­a­tion, apart from some neat CG effects in the fight scenes, is bland and for­get­table. Heck, if you’re going to be this shock­ingly blatant about wish-fulfillment, you might as well drop in some ser­vice, but there’s not even any of that. It’s an ima­gin­ary world for loser males in the real world to drop them­selves into, wish­ing they too had a cute girl come caress their leg because they’re really good at a video game. Blergh.

好个屁.The writer clearly has never read the source material and made all his implications from just purely watching episode 1 with 0 background knowledge that can be found just from the wiki.The fact he even called it a Shana Clone even pre-season showed that he is a moron that has no idea wtf he's talking about.Also that review is a pure pos that never took into consideration of the fact that he is a middle schooler and based all his impression on the fatness.The writer is a total hipster faggot that just tries to sound all important when he really doesn't know shit.

结果几天了，这帖子还在第一页
所以说胖子怎么了，当时看B站弹幕就是刷屏的“我们不如一头猪”，这弹幕的恶意扑面而来。

轻改动画都有删减，摆到哪部片子里基本都这样——所以小说党说其实不是这样的，原作的感觉其实是不同的----这就可以被视为是优越了么

而且归根结底胖又没啥问题，好像现实生活里面就没碰到胖一点的人一样了——哦这是动画所以不该有胖主角了么

只能說每個人的經歷不同
我當時經常被同學嘲笑，體育不好，下課都沒人和我一起玩，還有人偷了別人東西塞我書包里然後告老師來誣陷我，被揍的次數也不少
當然這個也許不一定都是胖的緣故但是那個時候很容易聯繫到一起來
認識的朋友也經常拿胖來開玩笑，一直到現在我對胖這個字都還有點敏感

還有就是雖然高考不考體育但是中考還是要考的，我當時是全班唯一一個18分，其他的人都是28分以上，體育這一門我就比別人硬是少了10分
我初中學校是個私立學校，很看重整體成績排位的，因為體育的緣故我差了0.5分不能直升(本來是可以的，被2個教師子女占了名額)要交1萬塊，最後只有去讀另外一所學校(我自己是非常喜歡初中學校的氛圍的，因為這個事情高一整個一年消沉了很久)

另外其實高考體育好的話是可以加分的
