虫族的设计是建立在由Games Workshop发行的“战锤40000”游戏中外星人种族Tyranids的模型上的。人族的海军陆战队员（机枪兵）的设计也同样出于该游戏。
科学船

漫画卡通参考
在星际争霸中有很多日本卡通人物的原型。其中很明显的便是上文提到的神族金甲，无论外形和说话方式都同电影《风之谷》中Ohmu一模一样。
在地图编辑器中，有两个英雄的名字为 Yggdrasil 及 Allen Shezarade。Yggdrasil出自“Ah! My Goddess”漫画，而Allen Shezarade则是鼎鼎大名的《天空艾斯嘉科尼》（Escaflowne）中的潇洒剑客。我想大概暴雪的职员对漫画卡通甚为着迷；同时这也解释了在谢启贡献者姓名表中出现的一些令人费解的提名。
隐藏的制作组名单
在主菜单界面下（就是游戏启动之后的那个界面），将鼠标移挪至单机游戏，多人游戏或是地图编辑器选项上，每个选项会有自己的动画。其中出现的字幕其实是星际争霸制作组成员的名字。很细致的设想啊。
壮志凌云
人族隐形飞机的英雄名叫Tom Kazansky，该名出自汤姆克鲁兹主演的电影《壮志凌云》其中主角的对头Iceman的原名。（译者注：壮志凌云，原名Top Gun，为美国著名经典电影，其中一首Take My Breath Away 更是脍炙人口。）
400人口上限
首先让200个机枪兵攻打敌人的基地，注意，必须是整整200个。摧毁1个（必须只是一个）对方的水晶、供应站或是领主。绝对不能毁掉任何其他的建筑，否则不灵。然后让他们全部被杀，之后你便可以有400的人口上限。
隐藏关卡
如果你在Brood War中虫族第九关只用20分钟便通关的话（不能用There is no cow level!）你将在进入虫族第十关之前玩神族的隐藏关卡。该关卡不会在任务选择界面上出现。也就是说，你每次想玩这一关前都必须先通过虫族第九关来解锁。
动物变炸弹
在星际中，当你连续点击任何地上动物50次时，该动物会像原子弹一样爆炸。在魔兽争霸2中也会有同样的效果。当然，周围的作战单位不会受任何影响。不知是否对在Brood War中的空中的鸟同样管用？
好象在sc的“鸣谢”里面奇怪的名字除了宫崎骏之外还有成龙，不了解:( Adun是protess的精神领袖,en taro adun基本上就是标准问候语，差不多=“以Adun的名义”
